There are more than 1,000 bus lines in shanghai city and about 50 bus lines are being opened, adjusted or lengthened every year. Contrary to popular belief, buses are not color coded-the bus number is. Buses 1 to 199 operate from 5 am to 11pm. Buses in the 200 and 400 series are peak-hour buses, and 300 series buses provide all-night service. Suburban and long-distance buses don't carry numbers-the destination is in characters.
Shanghai's taxis come in different colour, each company has its own color.The most reputable is the blue turquoise color by Da Zhong company. So far, the best and trustable service.The yellow colour taxi (Qiang Sheng) is also very good.White Taxi is Jin Jiang Taxi in Chinese. The service is average. The advantages of this company is the driver are more familiar with the roads and the city than drivers from any other companies.
The Shanghai Metro is an urban rapid transit system that serves the city of Shanghai by transporting around 1.8 million passengers each day. The system incorporates both subways and elevated light railways. As new metro lines are opened, passenger volumes are expected to rise significantly. It is the third city in China to build a subway system after Beijing and Tianjin and as of 2006 operates more lines than any other subway system in mainland China.
Ferryboats with 100-year's history in Shanghai are still popular choices for pedestrians and cyclists because of their convenience and low price. At present, there are in total 19 ferry lines serving nearly 40 ferry stations along both sides of the Huangpu River, providing links between Pudong and Puxi.
